A Home at the Heart of the Hill
Lutheran Campus Ministry at KU is currently engaged in a campaign to raise $800,000 to further our mission and ministry in Lawrence and on the KU campus.
Our Vision for Ministry
We seek to be a Lutheran ministry on campus, not just a ministry for Lutherans; a place for young people to grow in faith and leadership.
Our Goals
For Lutheran Campus Ministry to fulfill our God given mission in Lawrence we need better accessibility, visibility on campus, and a space which allows for growth. While forty years of wandering may have been good, both for the Israelites and us, we believe our own location will help us be more effective in our outreach.
Over the last several years we have had many discussions about the future location of Lutheran Campus Ministry. These discussions began when we were still at Canterbury House, and have included board members, other members of Trinity and Good Shepherd, a church building consultant, the regional director for campus ministry, national Lutheran Campus Ministry staff, local pastors, synod staff, students and more.
From these conversations we have a consensus on many of the aspects of our facility needs to fulfill God’s vision for this ministry. Worship, meeting and fellowship space are essential, as are visibility and a location near campus.
Another benefit of these discussions is a more focused understanding of the ministry we would like to have, independent of the physical space. In light of this understanding, the campaign also seeks to create an endowment to ensure provision for the ministry for years to come.
Our Strategy
As property in Lawrence sells quickly, especially in proximity to the university, we cannot propose a specific location until we have the funding to secure a contract. By identifying properties that meet our criteria for accessibility, visibility and room to grow, we estimate that it will take approximately $400,000 to purchase a new site for LCM. Another $100,000 has been budgeted for renovations and furnishing the space for use. Additional funds raised will go to our endowment, which will support the programming of the ministry into the future.
As we continue to identify potential locations, we have begun the exciting process of inviting people and congregations to generous participation in the campaign.
You can help
Your contribution to Lutheran Campus Ministry ensures the continued faith and leadership of Lutheran students, and also a growing outreach to unchurched students. Please help us to continue to provide a new generation of leaders for the church.
In addition to a direct gift or pledge to the campaign, there are a number of ways that you can ensure the future of LCM.
- Mention LCM to your friends and tell them about the experiences of students.
- Sign up for our email newsletter.
- Ask your congregation to donate used cell phones for our recycling campaign.
- Let us know of any foundations or endowments that may consider giving us a grant.
Your partnership in the gospel with Lutheran Campus Ministry gives lonely students a home away from home, seeking students an opportunity to explore their faith, and gifted leaders the opportunity to use their talents in service to God and one another. Thank you.
